My Experience with Glasstown Entertainment

June 6, 2020 Morgan YorkLeave a comment

All right, it’s time to talk about my experience with Glasstown Entertainment. I am so, so grateful to everyone who has chosen to speak up about this, especially the women of color, who were all treated so atrociously. I feel like an enormous weight has been lifted off my chest. For those of you who… Continue reading My Experience with Glasstown Entertainment

A Sample of My Fiction

September 9, 2019 Morgan York6 Comments

Hello, all! It’s been a while. If you’ve been paying attention to my social media, you know I am still busy writing–I’m working on a high fantasy novel and also querying a contemporary fantasy novel. Lately, though, I’ve been experiencing a fair bit of imposter syndrome. I’ve been branding myself as a writer for a… Continue reading A Sample of My Fiction

Before You Give Me Writing Advice

September 1, 2018September 1, 2018 Morgan York5 Comments

Every so often (usually on Twitter), someone will see that I’m a writer and want to give me advice. It is usually done with the best of intentions. People want to see me succeed, which I deeply appreciate. Maybe they think the advice will comfort me somehow, or present a solution to the problem I’m… Continue reading Before You Give Me Writing Advice

Life Update: What I’ve Been Up To

July 28, 2018July 28, 2018 Morgan York4 Comments

Hi all! I realize it’s been a long while since I’ve posted here (six months?!) and I figured I would give an update on what I’ve been doing during the silence (also, it’s hilarious to me that the last post I wrote was about motivating yourself to write). I adore this blog, but it unfortunately… Continue reading Life Update: What I’ve Been Up To

Write Bites: Motivating Yourself to Write

January 10, 2018January 30, 2018 Morgan YorkLeave a comment

Imagine the scene: you’ve been working on a novel for weeks, maybe months. You spend the bulk of your day at your day job, thinking about how you’ve scheduled today as a writing day, and how you’ll jump on that as soon as you get home and finish dinner. But then the time arrives, and… Continue reading Write Bites: Motivating Yourself to Write

Write Bites: How to Fight Self-Doubt As A Writer

December 1, 2017January 30, 2018 Morgan York2 Comments

A few days ago on Twitter, I asked people what their biggest writing struggle was besides finding the time for it. There were a variety of answers, but the most prominent pattern was this sense of despair. People are plagued by self-doubt, or they’re too depressed to write, or they feel the pressures of the… Continue reading Write Bites: How to Fight Self-Doubt As A Writer

Write Bites: Finding Time to Write

October 1, 2017January 30, 2018 Morgan York12 Comments

I am thankful that, since I started writing novels at the age of 14, very few people have said to me, “I wish I could write novels; I just don’t have the time.” Anyone who’s a writer themself, or who’s spoken to a writer about their job (because yes, essentially, it’s a job, even if… Continue reading Write Bites: Finding Time to Write

Write Bites: Final Battles

August 20, 2017August 20, 2017 Morgan York2 Comments

Write Bites is a new series in which I write shorter, bite-sized blog posts based on whatever writing topic has been on my mind that week. These posts are meant to supplement the longer Writes and Crafts posts, and will appear more frequently. As the last book of my YA fantasy series draws to a… Continue reading Write Bites: Final Battles

Writes and Crafts: Plotting

May 3, 2017January 30, 2018 Morgan York6 Comments

Greetings, all. I have emerged from the other side of the sickbed at last. Well, actually, I emerged a couple of weeks ago, but it took some time to get back on my feet. In case you missed my tweets or Instagram posts, I was taken out by a nasty flu for two weeks, throwing… Continue reading Writes and Crafts: Plotting

What I’m Reading

Instagram

This book was so good I had to buy its merch!! If you haven’t read The Project by @summerscourtney and you love psychological thrillers, you should buy this now. I was really excited to see Courtney’s approach to writing about a cult and wasn’t disappointed. She does it with compassion towards the people who become drawn into cults, showing respect for their humanity and for the vulnerabilities in their lives that led them down this path. Also the last line of the book destroyed me. Swipe to see the whole shirt (it says “All good stories serve a purpose”)
Happy birthday to my wonderful brother, who I don’t have nearly enough recent photos with...this 2001 Disneyland photo will have to suffice. He is every bit as cool as this photo suggests. I love you so much @thomasyorkk, thank you for being a passionate, wise, and thoughtful addition to my life, and I wish I could be with you in California today 💛💚
For years and years, I resisted using Scrivener, because I’m a creature of habit. People could pry Microsoft Word from my cold, dead hands. But as I was struggling to write so badly last year, it was clear some things needed to change, and one experiment I wanted to try was Scrivener. Turns out I really like it. It also really helps separate my day job life from my writing life—I go over manuscripts on Word or InDesign for my day job, so it helps to look at a different interface when I’m focusing on my own creations. So call me a convert 🌸
@motherrmoon_ dropped some adorable merch and the cozy sweater I got is basically a dress 🥰 I feel very cute in it 🌙
